Tri- Rivers Career Center EVALUATION RESPONSES

“RECRUIT & RETAIN” WORKSHOP with Kordell Norton, Synergy Solutions

What did we do today that helped?  What insights will help you get better results and improve?

  • Kordell helped me to think about how to get the students involved in the success of our program.
  • Simple realization – TRCC is a defacto voucher school
  • You were interesting, fun and informative.  Team Work!
  • Info about the “kid” network very important.  Kids talking about program make or break enrollment.  They are the customers.
  • Use students to market program.  We can have fun AND learn at the same time.
  • Organized our enlightenment – what we need to do, driven by what we already know, but we didn’t know we knew.
  • Helped by bringing to light the importance that we all need to work together towards a common goal.  Work Together = Success.
  • Switched groups to get a new dynamic.  Heightened awareness of what a valuable tool our students are.
  • It helped to realize that the students are our best marketing people.
  • Got me thinking – reinforced my marketing background.
  • Learned that recruiting will improve your school.  Use your students to inform people about your school.
  • Your models were excellent!  You delivery easy to understand.
  • Personalized information and commitment to customers.  Kordell did his homework regarding Tri-Rivers prior to his presentation.  Focused on meeting customer’s needs.
  • Looking at how society changes.  What our students expect:  experience.
  • Give the student’s an experience.
  • Discussed the needs of our customer base and the basics of recruiting.
  • Emphasized that money talks.
  • Just reinforced what I do – I don’t sell my program, my students Do!
  • Good, but I feel it was directed toward VoEd teachers and not the academic teachers.
  • Emphasized college as need for career-tech students.  Focus on developing a DRASTIC experience.
  • Humor – best starter & for intermission.  Stories.
  • I thought the idea that our students are looking for an “experience” was quite interesting.
  • Top teacher qualities.
  • Brainstorming was really good.
  • Laughed – changed tables.  Audience intersection.
  • To treat students as future workers and taxpayers.  To realize we are the people to create workers.
  • Remember students that are sociable – may be best sellers of school, leaders.
  • I liked the graphics and the paper on the table.
  • Great ideas for recruit and retention of students.  Make your classroom an “experience”.
  • Higher standards all around, esp. when it comes to entrance to the school, will give us better results (like the schools in our area – EHOVE and Pioneer.
  • The experience concept was helpful.  What makes up an experience was insightful.
  • Great sense of humor.  Experiences.  Use stories.
  • Brainstorming about favorite teachers reminded me of qualities I need to enhance.
  • Defined what makes a good teacher by having us remember what we liked about our favorite teacher – puts us in the students place.
  • Reminded us about recruiting students – rehash of what we already knew but in an entertaining, enjoyable atmosphere.
  • New ideas on recruitment, a new point of view is good.
  • The insight about desiring an experience was eye opening.  It puts together some of the ideas I have heard at conferences.
  • Not much – we’ve heard similar things before.  Insights as to why we get the ‘dumped’ kids from the home schools instead of the ‘promising’ and motivated kids.  Use students as your “marketing team”.
  • My current students do the presentations and sell the program.

What do you wish you had gotten more information on?  Do you have any thoughts for Kordell?

  • How an Academic teacher at a career center can help bring more students to TRCC.  I want to help, but how can I.
  • I’ve had current students sell our program for years, but I don’t get many new students who can think for themselves.  They seem to think my program is just fun.  I would like to get sincere students who want to be in my class.  Sometimes I feel my class is just a “PR” program.  I want more interested students.
  • We know how to be “better educators” but with the kids we get, we’re more “disciplinarians” than “educators” anymore!  It’s very frustrating to be a teacher here at TRCC!  How do we influence the home schools to help us help their kids.
  • Handouts with team performance models.
  • More concrete information
  • More specific methods for recruiting and retaining students.
  • He was interesting and entertaining.
  • Helping students with specific needs to have great experiences.  Helping students enjoy the class while struggling with skills they feel they don’t have.
  • More examples how to make experiences.
  • Nothing comes to mind for recruitment, but ideas on retention need to be touched upon.
  • Thanks for being entertaining.
  • A plan of attack.  We can talk about the pieces and parts… We need a plan with an end in mind with statistics.
  • His presentation was very valuable.
  • Specifics on how to prepare students for recruitment purposes.
  • C.A.S.E.
  • Get more students to graduation.
  • Begin by telling us purpose.
  • Are there specifics that students nationally/in Ohio are drawn to that create retention in Career Centers:  proven strategies, techniques, etc.
  • How to use the students in my class to recruit new students into our school.
  • How to create the experience.
  • Great presentation!
  • Your humor is great.
  • Continue on retention ideas.
  • I like this guy
  • How to get every student involved.  Students think having fun is doing everything their way.
  • How to get everyone to buy in to teamwork.
  • Keep going – let’s go to the next step!  The engine’s started… put the trany in gear.
  • How to use academic strengths to influence career/lab recruitment?
  • How about some practical ideas from other schools?
  • Storming and performing
  • Nice work!
  • Strategies to facilitate these ideas.
  • More on making an ‘experience’.
  • Tilt more towards what academics can do in light of OGT forcing from Applied Material.
  • I am the Interim Director of the Preschool/Daycare.  I am very interested in raising the morale and enthusiasm in the department.  My only tool right now is “leading by example”.  Any ideas for me would be appreciated.
